Instructions & Legend: 3D Color Texture Designer
Interactable Visual Elements:
Cube Resolution: Adjust how many cubes make up the 3D color space.
Slice X/Y/Z: Adjust which slice of the 3D cube you want to work with from different directions.
Reset Slider: Resets all the colors of the 3D color space to the normal trichromatic colors.
Randomize Colors: Randomizes all the colors of the cubes of the current cube resoution.
Show Outlines: Toggles a thin black outline at each cube's sides to make the cubes easier to distinguish.
Texture Name: The name that the downloaded 3D texture file with get. IMPORTANT: If you want to change the name after you've downloaded the file, then you have to either additonally change it via the Editor in the "m_Name: [...]" line or reimport it into the 3D Color Texture Designer, rename it there and re-download it. Otherwise the file cannot be read.
Download 3D Texture Asset: Downloads the currently designed custom 3D color space as a 3D color texture (.asset).
Import 3D Texture Asset(s): Opens a native file picker. Choose the folder that holds the 3D texture (.asset) file(s) that you want to import into the Select 3D Texture dropdown list..
Select 3D Texture (Dropdown): A dropdown list where you can select the imported 3D textures.
Bottom-Left "Cogwheel" Button: Shows/hides the top-left settings.
Bottom-Right Coordinate System: Shows a simple coordinate system that rotates with the 3D color cube to make it easier to navigate.
Mouse Actions:
Custom Color Selection of a Cube: Left-click on the a cube opens a color selection. Choose a color and it will be applied to the cube.
3D Space Location Hover: Hover over a button to see its location within the context of the current cube resolution.
Cube Rotation: Left-click-drag to rotate the 3D cube in any direction.
Cube Scale: Move the mouse wheel up to zoom in. Move the mouse wheel down to zoom out.
Other Functionalities and Important Notes:
When changing the color of a subcube in a lower cube resolution (e.g. 3³) it automatically adjusts the color of all other subcubes of the higher cube resolutions (in this case: 4³+) to smoothly adjust to that custom color. This will overwrite the custom color changes you've made in higher cube resolutions! If you don't want this to happen you should pick a fixed cube resolution from the beginning and change it only when necessary.
Exporting/downloading a 3D texture automatically smoothes between the subcubes' colors of the selected cube resolution.
A good practice is to keep the blacks black and the whites white.
